How to learn Kanji
Kanji learning is divided on the basis of several factors such as number of strokes, ease of learning, frequency of usage etc.
On the basis of JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test), kanji learning is divided in 5 parts N5, N4, N3, N2, N1. N5 is the easiest and N1 is the hardest. You should start from N5 level and go upto to wherever you like or need.
There are thousands of Kanjis (about 50,000), but you don't need to know all of them. Almost any Japanese speaker doesn't know all of them. About 2,000 is enough for normal conversations.
You don't need to learn all of them at once. Japanese children are taught Kanji throught their school life. You can also take it easy.
Learn to recognise kanji. You do not need to learn every word that the kanji that you are studying is used in. You should try to know how would that kanji change the meaning of the word it appears in and how it would be read.
So just check a new kanji, learn about its readings, meanings and compound words it is used in. And keep practicing.
